[News] T.I. Accused Of Illegally Using AKOO Name For Clothing Line

(AllHipHop.com News) Rapper T.I. could end up in court again to defend himself against trademark allegations levied against his Akoo Clothing line.

Akoo International bills itself as the world’s largest social music television network. The company filed a complaint against T.I. and Akoo in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, claiming trademark infringement.

According to the lawsuit, Akoo International has held the trademark for “Akoo” for years.

The federally registered trademark is sued by Akoo International, which delivers video programming to over 86 million monthly customers, via the Internet, shopping malls and universities in over 30 states.

Akoo International’s technology allows viewers to interact with programming on large screen, networked HDTV’s, using their mobile phones.

“Akoo has been recognized as a leading social TV platform for connecting brand advertisers with millions of our engaged viewers,” said Akoo CEO Niko Drakoulis. “Our primary obligation and goal is to prevent confusion among our consumers, which is among the most basic objectives of trademark law. At the same time, Akoo has invested nearly a decade of effort and substantial capital to deploy its network and will do everything in its power to protect its brand.”

Akoo International claims T.I.’s use of the name Akoo has mislead, deceived and confused consumers and potential clients.

The company also took action to defend their Akoo trademark when T.I.’s clothing line ran a controversial billboard advertisement in Newark, NJ, which was condemned by residents, as well as Mayor Cory Booker.

[News] Shyne Signs Seven – Figure Deal With Def Jam

(AllHipHop News) Recently freed rapper Shyne has inked a seven-figure deal with Def Jam, according to reports.

According to Miss Info, Def Jam won a bidding war between Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine and other labels, for the rights to release Shyne’s highly anticipated album, his first since 2004.

Shyne is also reportedly being managed by HipHopSince1978, the same company that manages the careers of Drake, Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne.

It’s being reported that Shyne is planning to record his album in London, although he was not allowed entry into the country last week, because of his immigration papers.

This is the second time that Shyne has inked a deal with Def Jam.

He signed a seven-figure deal with the label in 2004, although he clashed with CEO LA Reid over the promotion of his album, Godfather: Buried Alive.

His first album, Shyne was released in 2000, but his career was brought to a halt in 2001.

Shyne, real name Moses Michael Leviy , was convicted of two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession, after the high profile 1999 nightclub shooting, which also involved Sean “Diddy” Combs and his then girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez.

Police Claim Fabolous’ Crew Stole Rare 2008 Lamborghini (NEWS)

VIA: ALLHIPHOP.COM

Police are investigating rapper Fabolous and his connection to a luxury car stolen from an upscale hotel in Atlanta.

According to Channel 2 Action News, Atlanta police claim men in Fabolous’ entourage stole a rare 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder.

The vehicle, which was one of only two brought into the United States, was taken on January 31 and has not been seen since.

Surveillance video shows two men in Fabolous’ entourage approach a bellman at the Intercontinental, received the keys to the Lamborghini and left as if it was their property.

Fabolous and the rest of the group allegedly followed behind the Lamborghini in a minivan.

Police investigating the theft have confirmed that Fabolous knows the men, but an attempt to subpoena the rapper to make him talk was refused by Fulton County DA Paul Howard, who offered immunity to anyone who helped find the vehicle.

Meanwhile the vehicle’s owner, Eric Vargosko, is suing the Intercontinental over the loss of the Lamborghini.

Gucci Mane Speaks From Jail (NEWS)

By Houston Williams

Gucci Mane, real name Radric Davis, has broken his silence since his November 12 sentencing and now charges that he was completely to blame for his legal plight.

“I have accepted full responsibility for my actions and I am ready to deal with what is in front of me right now,” Mane said in a statement. “Thankfully, my label is still moving forward with my album release so I will have plenty to look forward to when I get out. I am remaining positive and want my fans to know that I am grateful for their loyalty and continued support. I will get through this.”

Davis has been sentenced to 12 months in Fulton County Jail in Georgia for a probation violation. The rapper could get out of jail in 6 months or less, according to a statement by the court.

Gucci Mane’s attorney, Dwight Thomas, said, “In court, Mr. Davis was extremely articulate and he was remorseful for his conduct. He was able to convince the courts that he was not deserving of the 2-year prison sentence he was facing.”

Asylum/Warner Bros. Records will continue to release his new album, The State vs Radric Davis, on December 8.

Keyshia Cole, Lil Wayne’, Soulja Boy, Keri Hilson and Usher all appear on the album.

Cash Money Mixtape Lawsuit Dismissed

A NY federal judge has cleared DJ Drama and several others over charges that the defendants failed to compensate Cash Money Records for various tracks that appeared on mixtapes.

While Drama had regularly collaborated with superstar Lil Wayne for their Dedication mixtape series, the financial issue arose when Drama began to sell his mixtapes officially in retail outlets.

Judge Cedarbaum threw out the charges after Cash Money lawyers failed to provide any “valid legal claim against [the] defendants.”

The label’s legal representation was given until September 9 to amend their initial complaint and continue litigation.

Wallace Collins, an entertainment attorney who represented BCD Music Group, explained that there will be no appeals and the matter is finished.

“[The] plaintiff (Cash Money Records) had requested that the case be dismissed ‘without prejudice’… which would have meant that Cash Money could try again,” Collins told AllHipHop.com. “However, the judge agreed with our request that it be dismissed ‘with prejudice;’ which basically drives a stake through the heart of the action and puts the final nail in the coffin of this lawsuit; it’s over and done!”

BCD Music Group was named as a defendant along with several other mixtape deejays.

Even when the case was first announced, DJ Drama remained diplomatic and hopeful that the situation would be resolved amicably.

“The accusations against me are misplaced,” Drama stated. “This is not a case of Lil Wayne vs DJ Drama. Me and Wayne are good. I am confident that this matter will be resolved quickly without harming the relationships between myself, Wayne and Cash Money Records.”

At press time, Cash Money Records has not released a statement regarding the verdict.

AllHipHop ChartWatch: Jay-Z and Raekwon’s Numbers Are In

What is going on this week? By now the whole world has seen and commented on Kanye’s impromptu speech at the MTV video music awards followed by his many apologies. We’ve also seen Lil’ Mama apologize for her apparent lapse in judgment for dimming a bright performance by Jay-Z. (Speaking of judging and Lil Mama….how did she get a job judging anything? Shouldn’t you get a hit album or be successful at something before people start to respect your opinion as a veteran in this industry?). Serena flipped out John McEnroe style on an official. People are saying that Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player ever, was rude at his hall of fame acceptance. All of this news in black entertainment can only lead to one thing…trouble for Obama. Can ya’ll give the man a week off. Please quit asking this dude questions about unimportant stuff. C’mon. Let’s get to the charts…it was a good week for Hip Hop.

We’re going to try a little something different this week and work or way from ten to one. At the number ten spot is Michael Jackson with his compilation album Number Ones.

This week The Beatles rereleased all of their albums and managed to claim a good portion of the countdown. The fab four managed to claim four spots with Rubber Soul at number nine, The White Album at number seven, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonley Hearts Club at number six, and Abbey Road at number three.

Country music duo Brooks & Dunn claim the number eight spot with their greatest hits collection #1s & Then Some.

Then we finally get to some Hip Hop. Raekwon sells 65,000 copies of his latest album, Only Built for Cuban Linx II, and claims the number five spot.

In the number four spot is Whitney Houston whose new album, I Look To You, falls a bit but still continues to sell.

At the number two spot is future tabloid headliner Miley Cyrus with her latest album, Time of our Lives.

And finally…at the number one spot…selling 465,000 copies of his latest studio album, The Blueprint 3…Jay Z! The self-proclaimed King of New York takes the top spot outselling the number two album by well over 300,000 copies. It’s good to see both Jay-Z and Raekwon do numbers and claim their place on the countdown. Hopefully fans will be able to keep the two artists on the list for next week.

Beyond the top ten The Black Eyed Peas claim the number 12 spot by selling 44,000 copies of their latest studio album, The E.N.D. Also, Fabolous and Eminem are, once again, neck and neck with the Brooklyn MC selling 14,000 copies of Loso’s Way to claim the number 46 spot, and the 8 Mile native claiming the 47th spot with his album Relapse.

DJ Am, real name Adam Goldstein, was found dead in his New York City apartment today.

The popular disc jockey was discovered about 5:20 PM, according to TMZ.com

They found him unresponsive and determined that he was dead.

The last thing he said via his Twitter account was, “New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems.”

Almost a year ago in September 2008, DJ AM and Travis barker survived a plane crash in South Carolina. Both men were badly burned and were the only ones that made it out alive.

Paul Wall Off To Southeast Asia To Support Military

Houston rapper Paul Wall took time to speak to AllHipHop.com today (August 21) about his motivations to participate in his third USO tour, as he prepared to embark on a nearly day-long journey.

Paul Wall, and Florida-based DJ Smallz, departed Washington, DC on a mission to show their support for US troops deployed in Southwest Asia.

The trip, which was announced earlier this week, has been a year in the making, revealed Paul Wall, who previously visited Kuwait and Iraq on separate USO tours.

“This was actually something that Smallz has been wanting to do,” Paul Wall told AllHipHop.com. “We’ve been going back and forth, trying to find the right time to go. But you know, we’ll get last minute shows and things like that. We finally decided to just pick a date.”

The decision to return to the Middle East region was also personal for Wall.

“My grandfather was a Lieutenant Colonel in the military and I grew up in a very small family,” shared the 28-year-old father of two. “He was all I knew for a long time. And then I have a lot of friends who were in the military, I lost a couple friends in Iraq. And then I heard a statistic that 80% of the military in the Middle East is either from Texas or stationed in Texas.

“So, going over there, it was just an amazing feeling,” he continued, “[To see] 5,000 troops with their assault riffles on their backs, they got their bulletproof vests on and everything, and their just going crazy, holding up Texas flags.”

During his visit to Iraq, Wall was accompanied by two friends, a far cry from the group of 12 he travelled with to Kuwait, as part of a Hip-Hop comedy tour organized by actor/comedian Jamie Kennedy. The smaller entourage allowed for the opportunity to explore Iraq and to forge a much more personal bond with the troops.

During the visit, Wall befriended two soldiers deployed from Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, about three hours from Houston; both about his age and had been married for approximately the same amount of time.

While he was in Iraq, Wall saw one of his new friends, who happens to have a son about the same age as Wall’s own son. His friend received news that, despite having served his full deployment, he would be remaining in Iraq for an additional six months due to a stop loss.

“I was there a week and I was already going crazy missing my son,” Paul Wall recalled. “I could only imagine what he was going through. Feeling that and seeing it just made me wanna do my duty and go over there even more to perform.”

Once he makes it back to the States, Paul Wall will be back to work, continuing his recent recording schedule, which finds him in the studio working on several collaborations and laying the foundation for his third major label release.

But his primary focus, he says, will be on the continued success of Expensive Taste, the clothing line he launched with close friends Travis Barker and Skinhead Rob. The clothing label was born almost out of frustration, after Paul Wall’s contractual obligations to Atlantic Records prevented the trio from pursuing a recording contract as a group also named Expensive Taste.

“We actually started the line as t-shirt to sell as merchandise to our fans,” explained Paul Wall. “We took the logo Mr. Cartoon had created for our group, and put them on shirts to promote the music. And it got real popular. So we took it one step further and said, “F**k it, since Atlantic won’t let us do the group, we’ll just make it a clothing line.”

Immediately following Wall’s return to the States, Expensive Taste will launch its latest collection at the Magic Fashion Tradeshow in Las Vegas August 31 – September 2.

Kelis Requests More Financial Support from Nas

After receiving a judgment last month ordering Nas to pay over $44,000 in monthly child and spousal support, singer Kelis is now requesting an increase totaling over $400,000.

According to court documents filed by Kelis Rogers lawyer Laura Wasser, her client is entitled to more income since Nas allegedly grosses $244,826.00 per month.

In comparison, Wasser states that Kelis only generates 13,744.00 per month and is dependent on Nas to maintain her current lifestyle.

Kelis is asking for $17,225.00 a month in child support, $72,728.00 in spousal support, retro child support of $29,522.00, and retro spousal support of $281,571.

If the courts approve, Kelis will receive a total of $401,076.00 in addition to the $44,000 plus judgment decreed last month.

The July judgment will be reviewed in September, at which time a judge will make a final decision on what Nas will pay in child support, and how long he will required to maintain spousal support for his ex-wife.

The star couple divorced in April, with Kelis citing irreconcilable differences.

Both parties have kept the matter private, with Nas simply asserting he was a good husband and his happiness at the successful birth of his first son, Knight.
